Software Engineer, Backend

DoorDash is hiring a Software Engineer, Backend for the Data User Platform and Programs team in Pune. This is part of a founding engineering team in India with high ownership. You will work on data infrastructure, reliability, governance, developer tooling, and AI systems that support thousands of internal data users.

• Improve scalability, performance, and reliability of data platform services
• Build and operate data discovery and metadata platforms
• Develop AI-enabled services and workflows, including self-serve tooling for AI assistants
• Add observability, monitoring, and operational tooling to maintain platform SLAs
• Drive cost-efficient data platform design by identifying underutilized resources
• Embed cost awareness into the data lifecycle
• Partner with cross-functional teams in a fast-moving, product-driven environment

• B.E./B.Tech., M.E./M.Tech, or Ph.D. in Computer Science or equivalent
• 3+ years of experience with CS fundamentals and at least one of Go, Java, or Python
• Proficiency in using AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) across the full SDLC
• Prior technical experience in Big Data infrastructure, Cost Efficiency & Governance
• Experience building meaningful pieces of data infrastructure (bonus: Spark, Clickhouse, Iceberg, Airflow)
• Experience improving efficiency, scalability, and stability of data platforms
• Experience building or operating backend systems in production

• 3+ years of relevant professional experience
• Strong background in backend and data systems
• High ownership mindset suitable for a founding engineering team in India
