Remote Backend Django Engineer – AI & Algorithmic Systems

Spotter AI is a fast-growing US-based trucking startup building AI- and algorithm-driven systems. The company operates in a high-energy environment with a diverse, distributed team from around the world, focusing on product-driven solutions for the transportation industry.

Spotter AI is looking for a strong Backend Django Engineer who loves clean data models, well-designed APIs, and clever algorithms. You will own core backend features end-to-end — from modeling the data to implementing the logic and exposing it through fast, reliable services — working with a small remote team across several countries.

• Design and implement backend services and APIs using Python + Django (and DRF or similar)
• Model and evolve the domain in the database with clean, well-structured schemas and relationships
• Implement algorithmic/AI logic in the backend (e.g., scoring, ranking, routing, decision rules)
• Write pragmatic, production-ready code that is easy to reason about and iterate on
• Optimize for correctness and performance (efficient queries, smart indexing, lean responses)
• Work with the team to turn product ideas into concrete technical designs and endpoints
• Help shape engineering patterns, conventions, and how the team ships and iterates

• Strong experience building backend applications with Python + Django
• Solid understanding of relational data modeling and SQL (PostgreSQL)
• Comfortable designing and building RESTful APIs (bonus: Django REST Framework)
• Experience with non-trivial business logic or algorithms (decision flows, scoring, optimization)
• Good performance instincts (query behavior, caching)
• Startup mindset: comfortable with ambiguity, moving fast, and iterating on feedback
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment and communicate clearly
• Bonus: GCP, Redis, Docker, Kubernetes, algorithms/optimization background

• 0-2 years of experience
• Strong backend foundation with Python/Django
• Locations open: Argentina, Colombia, India, Mexico, Pakistan (Fully Remote)
• Ability to work independently in a distributed team
• English communication skills required
